Just. Wow. As we went over Mexico and the U.S. this morning, I caught this sprite. Sprites are TLEs or Transient Luminous Events, that happen above the clouds and are triggered by intense electrical activity in the thunderstorms below. We have a great view above the clouds, so

Important for #weather folks to understand - the OBBBA is _not_ the same as the FY2026 Budget Request. The fight to save NOAA (and so many other critical innovation infrastructure agencies) is still hot.

NWS Radars don't predict storms, they're observational tools only. It's similar to how a rain gauge doesn't make a forecast, it only tells us what's going on. Many different weather apps out there ingest NWS radar data, then merge the observational data into model forecasts.

Happy to announce that my first ever AMS journal manuscript was accepted for publication the other day! It’ll cover the first half of my Master’s research about the construction and climatology of a dataset of SAL events in the tropical North Atlantic.

As wind energy expands, turbines can interfere with radar signals, creating contamination called wind turbine clutter and making it harder for National Weather Service forecasters to detect storms. CIWRO's advanced signal-processing techniques clean the signal without losing important weather info.

⚡ A bolt for the record books! @TAMU_ATMO's Dr. Timothy Logan helped confirm a lightning flash that stretched 515 miles—from Texas to Kansas. The rare “megaflash” is now the longest ever recorded. Read more: tx.ag/LoganLightning…

The Framework Laptop SDR module that I´m designing consists of three modular blocks, each of which can be swapped and upgraded individually. The PA and the AFE each have their own shielding can. The mainboard sits on top of these two cans

This Wednesday @ 10AM ET, we'll markup the Weather Act Reauthorization. Americans deserve the best weather forecasts, and this common-sense bill advances critical weather research, supports improvements in forecasting & prediction, expands commercial data opportunities, and more.

The Advanced Technology Demonstrator radar can adapt its scans in real time, skipping clear skies to focus on storms. This new approach speeds up weather data collection while preserving detail, helping detect storms faster and track them more effectively. #AMS41Radar

Here is the 21z sounding from College Station provided by Texas A&M University. Observations show ample moisture and a deep warm layer between 900-700mb. This warm layer and above freezing surface temps are currently staving off winter precipitation. #TXwx #HOUwx #Houston
