This is what #naturerecovery looks like on mountainside in upland #Wales to right of fence. I stopped there - it was alive with warblers singing.Left of fence still sheep grazed. Will new Wales Sustainable Farming Scheme encourage farmers to create habitat for nature like this?

Welcome to the 12th instalment of #FencepostFriday This week, an aerobatic dragonfly-chasing falcon, the Hobby. These birds migrate to the UK to breed from their wintering grounds in Africa and are regularly seen hunting over the Lake Vyrnwy Estate in the summer.

Welcome to the 15th instalment of #FencepostFriday This week, a priority species for the Lake Vyrnwy Reserve, the Hen harrier. This bird, a young male, visited our post several times in 2022, likely benefitting from the abundance of Meadow pipit and vole prey in the area.

Welcome to the 16th instalment of #FencepostFriday This week, our most nocturnal owl, the Long-eared owl. Its secretive habits make it a very difficult bird to census and estimates of the UK population vary.

What a shot… Daniel Biber spent years observing huge gatherings of starlings on the Costa Brava, before he was able to capture the exact moment their murmuration formed the ethereal shape of one giant bird. No trickery. Just nature on the wing doing it’s most wonderful thing.

Welcome to the 18th instalment of #FencepostFriday This week, one of the stars of Lake Vyrnwy, the Merlin. This female has chosen a nice sunny day to visit our post, probably whilst out hunting for small birds and dragonflies.

Welcome to the 21st instalment of #FencepostFriday. (We are back and not finished yet!) This week, a bird not typically associated with moorland, the Willow warbler. A summer migrant to the UK, these birds arrive around April and this species is one of Lake Vyrnwy’s most numerous
