The Erasmus Scheme provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to study, teach and volunteer abroad. The new Government should be more ambitious about rebuilding stronger relationships with our European neighbours.

Plans for a new Birkenhead Market have been controversial, delayed, scaled back and revised. Today a consultation went live on the council officers' latest thinking. You can see the details and take part in the survey using this link: haveyoursay.wirral.gov.uk/birkenhead-mar…

Liberal Democrats voiced their opposition to the axing of the Winter Fuel Allowance in today's debate in Parliament. Of the 79,000 pensioners on Wirral, Labour's new policy means that 67,748 will lose their Winter Fuel Allowance. facebook.com/share/p/uLZBMy…

This is misleading and factually incorrect. Car parks & residents parking is not subsidised by Council Tax. In fact there is a surplus of income over expenditure on the Parking Account of nearly £800K. The proposed increases and changes are intended increase the surplus to £1.1m.

The parking account includes enforcement, parking permits, back-office staffing etc Granted it doesn't show maintenance figures, but this might be where the surplus on the account goes Councillors have not yet been provided with transparent budgetary figures to justify a roll out

Hearing that the council is removing the resident parking charge notices from lamp posts due to some sort of error(?) and saying they are not proceeding with these increases and new charges. Can Wirral Council confirm the position please - nothing on your social media feeds.

Good question from Allan Brame 🔶 exposing the inefficient parking enforcement contract loses more money than it’s proposed to raise by extending charges

We welcome the news that ministers are reviewing the carers allowance repayment scandal after pressure from carers groups, The Guardian, and the Liberal Democrats. Today, Ed Davey urged the PM to support our motion to end this scandal and give carers the support they deserve.

Scrapping the winter fuel payment will be a monumental mistake for the new government, forcing some pensioners who are struggling to make ends meet, to choose between heating or eating this winter. It’s not too late for the Chancellor to change course. l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%…

Confusion on Merseyside over the changes to capped bus fare levels. we know there is no change to fares in London or Manchester. The £2 cap in Merseyside was billed as "Steve Rotherham's £2 bus fare" agreed with operators until Sept 2025. So is it ending this year or not?

The Mayors of Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire have both now confirmed the £2 cap in their counties will stay for 2025. Still silence however from Liverpool City Region and Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region on how Merseyside’s bus commuters are effected by the Government raising the fare cap.

Far too many SEND children in Wirral are waiting more than the twenty-week limit for an education, health and care plan. We need to see far greater urgency from the government when it comes to tackling this crisis, because children and parents cannot wait any longer.

Good news that the commitment to a £2 cap until September is being honoured (it was, after all, what was promised) Pity it's taken 2 weeks! Manchester caped fares immediately the Government changed the rules Why does Merseyside's Mayor always wait for Manchester to lead the way?
