On this day in 1824, over 100 Wiradjuri people were brutally slaughtered on the site where Bathurst stands today. Martial law has only been declared once in the history of NSW when Governor Thomas Brisbane declared martial law on Wiradjuri people.

On this day 15 October 1851, Australian slave trader Benjamin Boyd was killed by locals of Guadalcanal, in the present day Solomon Islands. Boyd was the original pioneer of 'blackbirding', which involved deceiving and kidnapping over 60,000 Pacific Islanders to work in Australia.
