Really great discussion here about code and reproducibility (& an assumption that one needs to code to be reproducible). Perhaps something we should discuss at the next SORTEE conference?

In the world of #dataviz sometimes art meets science! 🖌👩‍🔬 We plotted parrot data in the ALA to celebrate #WorldParrotDay 🦜 using the dominant plumage shades for each genus 🌈 and created some accidental art in the process! Watch out Monet ‍🎨 @accidental_aRt #rstats #Rtistry

I love this #dataviz for a few different reasons! 1. How interesting the general spatila patterns in plumage trends (South-East redder, North green/yellow, West pinker etc). Is it adaptive? 🤔 Has anyone ever studied this? BirdLife Australia @D0CT0R_Dave Sean Dooley

We've just released the FrogID dataset 4.0. Almost 𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙛 𝙖 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 #frog records. That’s more than double all other frog records gathered since FrogID launched in 2017. Created by over 23,000 people recording #frogs across #Australia. 🐸💚 australian.museum/blog/amri-news…

Open-science practices don't (all) require big investments of time and effort. This great post by @daxkellie and @westgatecology introduces small and achievable steps to improve R code reproducibility that can have a big impact ecoevocommunity.nature.com/posts/improvin…

🔎 Have you checked out ALA's new book Cleaning Biodiversity Data in R? This hand resource will make sure you're using brains 🧠 not prawn 🦐 to get through your data cleaning tasks! 🔗 spr.ly/6015lfpof @daxkellie @[email protected] @ShandiyaB

Wow now David Keith wins the #EurekaPrize for Botanical Science. A great night for Australian ecological research. “Long live botany, long live ecology!”

Despite providing 5% of GBIF @biodiversity.social/@gbif's global observations, the ALA's research impact is greater than it seems...🧑🏼‍🔬🧫 New UNSW research finds the ALA has supported > 9,000 authors & 2,406 scientific publications (to 2023). 63% are open-access! 🔗📚: spr.ly/6012mCn3e

You asked.... we listened! It's the last day of biodiversity month! To celebrate, we've visualised all the plant observations added to the ALA in 2024. 🌿🪻 Flowering plants have hit everyone else out of the park! 🌸⚾️ #rstats #dataviz
