Like other developers, Redrow Homes will return all the money it has claimed under the Govt’s furlough scheme. Credit to them for recognising that paying out even reduced or deferred shareholder dividends would be untenable having claimed Govt. subsidy. insidehousing.co.uk/news/news/majo…

Covid rent arrears were never going to be material to Housing Providers financial capability. The real issue - how do we fight soon to hit increased poverty due to Covid recession. Tenants pay their rent the main issue is a number of them then can’t afford to turn the heating on

Poverty is already with us, it’s just about to get a lot worse. Working with all sectors, (inc. private) fighting poverty should be a STRATEGIC issue for housing associations. Yes, we do some good stuff but we need to raise the bar by a couple of levels. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Read this, it’ll either make you angry or want to cry. Councils, education, health, housing and business sector must come together strategically to basically save people’s lives. Yes, Govt should lead, yes it needs investment but we can’t just stand by and say it’s not down to me

This is a sideways step when we need a step forward. The Covid poor need lower energy bills not more time to pay what they can’t afford. The old way of thinking and doing doesn’t cut it anymore. theguardian.com/money/2020/oct…

Carlo Ancelotti fronted a TV advert tonight for the NHS’s Covid appeal for blood plasma. The next advert, Jose Mourinho was advertising gambling slot machines available on your mobile phone from Paddy Power. As an Evertonian, thank you Carlo for being our manager.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that inequality was a natural consequence of living. It doesn’t have to be this way, read Bernie Sanders. The simpler we keep it, the easier it is to fix. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Never forget this: The forces undermining our democracy, polluting our planet, and stoking hatred are counting on you to give up. Cynicism is how they win.

A brilliant summary thread by Pete Apps of the social housing deregulation period, government mistakes and how we in the social housing sector didn’t manage the risks it presented

Superb article however one major flaw … it’s far too sensible. The mega rich PL club owners don’t understand what they own. They think the players are the stars when it’s actually the game itself and the adoration fans have for their clubs. As Jason says, time for disruption.

Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the
