I think we all know now why Number 10 didn’t want to hand over the scientific basis for the pub curfew - this is from last night’s Sage document dump

The Bolton lockdown has clearly not worked, and I believe that the cure is worse than the disease, so I have stepped down from my role as Parliamentary Private Secretary.

Although it doesn't mention them by name, this is a pretty stinging rebuke of how Professor Chris Whitty and Government Office for Science have been presenting data to support the case for lockdowns osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/news/osr-state…

There is no light of the tunnel for hospitality in moving back to a tiered approach with a cap on capacity, hours and restrictions on customers meaning revenues of just 30% normal levels

Kate Nicholls OBE (@ukhospkate) 's Twitter Profile Photo

So that same approach applies to bars and restaurants and hospitality - right? And we know that the ‘identifying possible outbreaks’ led PHE to conclude 2% directly attributable to hospitality

Kate Nicholls OBE (@ukhospkate) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We need tier restrictions and tier allocations reviewed by the PM as a matter of urgency. They are arbitrary, discriminatory & earlier this week he recognised they place a disproportionate burden on the sector in order to keep other sectors open. Compensate hospitality save jobs

I’m lost for words! Well words I can put in a tweet. #Conservatives Matt Hancock under pressure to explain £30m test tube work for ex-neighbour | Matt Hancock | The Guardian. theguardian.com/politics/2020/…

A well targeted vaccination of identifiable 4 million most vulnerable should prevent >90% of all deaths and >80% hospitalisations. At this point all restrictions should be lifted. For ever.Matt Hancock

Urgent need for extension of VAT and business rates holiday for at least a year to give tourism and hospitality businesses a lifeline and support recovery thetimes.co.uk/article/bosses…

A stepped approach, checked against key tests seems welcome, so we can measure what is going on But this seems at odds with the decision to fling open the doors to 10m children on one day for all pupils - why not use same principles of measurement and care? #lockdown

My head hurts & my heart aches - today was the day Boris Johnson condemned thousands of hospitality businesses to death. Hopes & dreams crushed, livelihoods destroyed, & jobs lost. Seemingly it’s an acceptable sacrifice of a sector UK Prime Minister has always seen as 2nd class.

Businesses can now begin to plan for life post-Covid. But they need financial security too. That means ✅deferring business rates payments for another year ✅continuing ban on evictions ✅extend VAT reduction ✅meeting full cost of furlough ✅support for 3 m left with nothing

❗️Key decisions determining the pace of the Govt’s roadmap were based on SPI-M-O modelling ⚠️ Some serious questions arise from the assumptions on which the modelling is based Thread 👇 (1/6)

A most ignorant article - ignores all the evidence and data completely. The Warwick study was completely discredited. This epidemic centred around infections in hospitals as reputable studies now show. ⁦Rishi Sunak⁩ thetimes.co.uk/article/rishi-…

Kate Nicholls OBE (@ukhospkate) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ok, so Scotland, Wales and NI all now agree tourism and hospitality needs 100% relief from business rates for a full 12 months to recover - England is the odd one out in thinking we can start to pay bills just 9 days after reopening in July

Mark Harper (@mark_j_harper) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We have a rapid rollout of effective vaccines and are heading into summer. If, even at this point, the Govt won’t release restrictions, this points to restrictions in the autumn and winter, when respiratory diseases increase and the NHS is always under more pressure…1/8

Covid passports will be a costly burden that run the risk of creating flashpoints between staff and customers, as well as raising potential issues with equalities legislation and the handling of customer data. Read our full comment on this here: ukhospitality.org.uk/news/573921/Co…
