RARC VE7RAR members took advantage of Aug. weather last weekend to give its radio station VE7GOG Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society and Parks Canada Cannery billboard a good washing. Repainting of station starts this weekend as part of summer maintenance program. #ve7gog #steveston #rarc_maintenance
Members spent weekend priming RARC VE7RAR radio station VE7GOG Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society after last week's washing. Shoutout to Benjamin Moore Vancouver Benjamin Moore CA (Steveston) for donating paint in 2015 to repaint exterior. Paint still holding up after 7 years with leftover used for touch-ups today.

While everyone's clock is going to spring forward this Sunday, the RARC VE7RAR UTC clock at VE7GOG Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society will stay unchanged, but time reference will become UTC -7 instead of UTC -8. Amateur radio uses UTC time for consistency around the world.

Took Friday afternoon off to test install Diamond dual-band antenna RARC VE7RAR station Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society Steveston where radio net control ops was conducted last week Steveston SalmonFest parade. New install expected to produce better SWR than other 2 older existing VHF/UHF aerials.

Members RARC VE7RAR were at PNW DX event by Orca DXCC at NewWest last week w highlight presentation on Bouvet Is. (BY0J) DX-pedition, one of most remote locations on planet. Topics on long distance radio comm. is prelude to 80m HF test w Nanaimo ARA at VE7GOG on Sat. Aug. 26.
Last Saturday, RARC VE7RAR members used club station (and personal antenna setups) Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society to conduct NVIS tests on 80m HF with Nanaimo ARA, as part of #EMCOM #EMERGCOMM #radiocom exercise to contact Vancouver Is. Successful QSOs were made with as little as 10W on voice.
