Farm roadways & walking distances to grazing platforms can result in injuries to legs & feet. Indoor systems for cows are associated with an increased risk of mortellaro, interdigital dermatisis.

Injuries associated with indoor housing areas, cubicle beds, loafing areas for cows, concrete surfaces for walking, slurry contamination of walking areas. Lameness contributes significantly to reduced milk production and impaired reproductive performance.

(1/2) Recent farm visit with very poor fertility in a herd of 90 dairy cows. They used homeopathic medicine in the drinking water for the prevention of IBR and BVD. This past spring at calving time cows had lost appetite and elevated temperatures with 3 cows eventually dying.

(2/2)There was a major outbreak of IBR & number of calves were born as positive to BVD. Homeopathic treatments for the prevention of IBR, BVD, Lepto etc..may be convenient & cheaper than conventional vaccination programmes however scientific data supporting regimens don't pertain

Pedigree Jersey herd of ~85. Pushing out 550kg solids on average. Top cow last year did 860kg of solids. A remarkable feature on this farm is with 1.5 tonne of he is doing 3600kg of solids whick equals to about 6.5 cows per HA which is heavily stocked but very well managed.

Lameness in dairy cows is a significant stressor! It causes reduced MILK PRODUCTION and impaired REPRODUCTIVE performance A Dr DAN scan reveals on an ongoing basis the association between reproductive performance and leg/feet injuries

Bertie Reynolds calls this cow Mother Teresa! She takes to any new born calf. This helps calves which are slow to feed on an artificial nipple to successfully feed on a cow. Mother Teresa will feed calves on a daily basis and will still be milked. She is a real saviour!

PREVENT LAMENESS IN YOUR DRY COWS On a farm call it was revealed they had problems getting hoof care prior to drying off for alternate calving. Lameness will cause health problems post calving and reduce future survivability. Colostrum quality will also be impaired
