Reading about an experienced teacher who has been told by leaders to play phonics videos to their class rather than teach the lesson themselves, in order to maintain fidelity to the scheme. This is where over prescription ends up. What is wrong with people ?

In 1977 I went to school a reader and so were all my friends. Not affluent at all. In fact my Dad was a fisherman. No phonics just an alphabet with names and sounds but the reading magic? Was in sight vocabulary. This is why I know overloaded phonics isn’t the only way #peterjane

"It's not their fault, let them do it" The only person I have ever heard say this is Tom Bennett. If you believe this is what trauma informed practice is, or swallow what TB is feeding you. It's definitely time to broaden your horizons

The use of fear to control children is so ubiquitous that most adults don’t even realise they are doing it. They’d never describe what they are doing that way. But in so many different ways, the children feel it. Here’s what it looks like. 1/

I'm confused about the idea that anyone ever thought differentiation only meant using different tasks. I've written a book on it and that definitely didn't come through in my research. People have been talking about lots of 'types' of it for years.

Why is Michaela a problem? Because it is more than a school doing well, it is at the vanguard of a political and ideological movement that claims the way for children to get out of poverty is through traditional educational instruction, not by changing inequality in society.

Previously unreleased footage of Matt Hancock at Tory conference karaoke. Whatever he does in the jungle won’t top this…

Remember Victoria Climbié - born this day, 1991. Her favourite colour was red and she liked to entertain. The death of this 8-year-old led to improved child protection policies/practices and a promise to make the difference for those we serve #VictoriaClimbié #everychildmatters

Electricity now costs more in the UK than anywhere else in the world. But at least we didn’t end up with Jeremy Corbyn ending the cost of living crisis and saving families an average of £6,716 a year, taking utilities into public ownership and raising the minimum wage. Phew.

Every day I wake up, look at the latest news about the government, and wonder how the hell we got here. They are deeply immoral, dysfunctional and corrupt. 👀

signs of a culture problem: - hierarchy is paramount - image trumps substance - listening is limited & tokenistic - staff have no voice; scared of repercussions - those who speak honestly are ostracised & demonised - bonding comes via othering - leaders can’t see the problem

Every single time the Conservatives come to power they increase the size of NHS waiting lists. Please don't let them blame it on Covid or anything else; they were doing exactly the same thing in the 90s. Please RT if you think everyone should be clear on this.
