Such a happy moment to see my mentor Lea T. Grinberg, M.D, Ph.D receive the John Douglas French Alzheimer’s Endowed Professorship. She’s inspired me in so many ways since I started working at the UCSF MAC 6 yrs ago. I’m sure she’ll continue mentoring & making ripples in the scientific community

Entorhinal cortex neurons accumulate tau and die early in #Alzheimer. But the molecular signature of the most vulnerable neurons was unknown, until now. Take a look at this new paper Grinberg Lab and Kampmann Lab put together. UCSF MAC gerolab The Rainwater Charitable Foundation biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

It took years and a lot of method development, but for me it shows the power of real multidisciplinary research. One step closer to understand mechanisms underlying selective vulnerability #Alzheimer Incredibly proud of this collaboration. Grinberg Lab gerolab Kampmann Lab

Since I started research in #Alzheimers I have been fascinated in understanding why some neurons die and others don’t, so was very excited to be part of this project in collaboration with Kampmann Lab. Check out our new paper that explores this topic! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump

Using postmortem tissue, we showed few years back that LC starts shrinking very early in AD. Now Mara Mather is showing the same in living patients. Will LC imaging become the best biomarker for detecting AD in silent stages? PIA @grinberglab UCSF MAC Alexander Ehrenberg gerolab

Beyond excited to start this journey with this amazing group of people! Big things to come from Kaiser School of Medicine :)

My mother has always been my biggest inspiration - in science, medicine, strength and compassion. Tomorrow is my first day of medical school and I am beyond excited to follow in her footsteps. We are both kaiser women now!! 😁 #kpsom2024

It is unclear if RORB+ is only a marker of this vulnerable excitatory neuronal population or it is involved in the mechanisms of vulnerability. Further studies can now differentiate RORB+ from other vulnerable excitatory nuclei and investigate what make them more vulnerable

Why are some brain cells particularly vulnerable to #Alzheimers disease, while others resist its advance for years? The answer could lead to new approaches to treating the neurodegenerative disease. #aging ucsf.edu/news/2021/01/4…

Not all neurons are created equal!! Especially in the context of #Alzheimers Very excited to have been apart of this project and can’t wait to see the future research that is to come

It seems that us, humans, have company in the #alzheimer works. See lions, seals and walrus accumulate plaques AND tangles during aging. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33413691/
