Friendly reminder to the reply guys: Human rights are meaningless if you think only some people deserve them. If you say, "Oh HE was a bad guy so he didn't deserve humane conditions," then you don't really believe in human rights. Rights aren't conditionals.

Many would profess to care about human rights; it's not that they're lying. It's just that there's always exceptions. Historically it's been minorities of race, religion, etc. Prisoners? In their collective subconscious, no one in society actually believes prisoners are human
