The IRS has not taken an official stance on liquid staking. The conservative view most crypto accountants & software take is that swapping SOL<>mSOL or ETH<>stETH is taxable since you trade one token for another. But is there an alternative way to view it?

If you swap between SOL<>mSOL or ETH<>stETH and realize a loss, you can still claim the loss. Why? The SEC said these liquid staking activities aren’t securities. But there is rumored legislation that will apply the wash sale rule to crypto anyway. Hopefully not 🤞
