1,200 people whose deaths were preventable. There is a shameful lack of meaningful action on drug poisoning in Saskatchewan. #skpoli cbc.ca/news/canada/sa…

With more than 12,000 people having died in B.C. from the toxic drug supply since 2016, the chief coroner is pushing back against safer supply criticisms. "I think it’s reprehensible that this is a medical crisis that people are trying to politicize." vancouver.citynews.ca/2023/05/18/bc-…

Excellent article by colleague ⁦@KateColizza⁩ et al. #UCP planned involuntary addictions treatment doesn’t work, contravenes rights/freedoms, increases harm, erodes trust in #healthcare. #abpoli #abhealth #abelxn Contradicts all evidence. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

BC just recorded a slight decrease in toxic drug deaths. They’re cautiously optimistic but things are certainly not skyrocketing out of control right now, as the premier suggests. #ableg

In awe of all the doctors, nurses and support staff that have stayed back in Yellowknife to ensure the safe transfer of patients #unsungheros

Extremely cruel to confiscate tents and force human beings onto freezing streets. There aren't enough shelter spaces to accomodate those sleeping outside. Many social services are closed or operating at a limited capacity over xmas. Where are people supposed to go? #yeg #yegcc

Thank you Craig Baird - Canadian History Ehx for taking the time to share this. Manmeet owned his identity as a Sikh, Calgarian, Albertan and Canadian with immense pride. We hope his story makes so many other stories possible. Happy Sikh Heritage Month. #nicetomanmeetyou

“Occasionally, if it smells like racism and looks like racism, it is racism. And sometimes, when one of us is being attacked, all of us are being attacked.” Extremely disappointed in The Globe and Mail, thankful for TKB and this commentary baaznews.org/p/globe-and-ma…

Thank you Baaz for giving me the space to share my thoughts on behalf of the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Foundation. This work has taken nearly a decade. Up until now we’ve done it with our heads down. But there comes a point when misinformation requires you to speak up.

Spoke the Calgary Eyeopener this morning about the potential closure of #yyc's lone supervised consumption site at the Sheldon Chumir Centre. 🧵 #ableg Closing this site is likely to 1) ⬆️ risk of death 2) ⬆️ not ⬇️ issues related to public drug use cbc.ca/listen/live-ra…

Also worth noting the UCP government passed a regulation in 2021 that made itself the sole decider of where/when/how SCS can operate in Alberta. So it is disingenuous for the Minister to now ask Calgary's City Council to decide.

Elaine Hyshka (@ehyshka) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If this was really about giving municipalities a say, the province could provide funding and delegate authority to the cities to approve SCS licences, enabling an *informed decision* based on data, policies and procedures, and public engagement results.

“The introduction of the Narcotic Transition Services regulation in Alberta serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of ideologically driven health policies” - a must read by @KateColizza Elaine Hyshka & Patty Wilson sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #addictionmedicine

Janet Eremenko (@janeteremenko) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Really want to highlight this takeaway: 550 people used the supervised consumption site in Q1 2024. Close the SCS and suddenly that's 550 drug users on the street. It would be great if they could all get treatment but that capacity just doesn't exist. #yyc #ableg
