Kierkegaard said that there are no people meant for each other except the one you didn't end up with. It's true, I should have been with Arthur.... but I'm not. Anyway, here's a cute picture of Goethe skating like a pro.

Schopenhauer, later in life, portrayed himself as an -eagle in solitude- when he grew more and more detached from people. Reflecting his inner world: "He himself is always in the pure cool mountain air and now beholds the sun when all below is still engulfed in dead of night."

For those genuinely interested in Schopenhauer I really recommend reading his Manuscript Remains. It's a set of 5 volumes containing raw and authentic excerpts directly translated from his personal notebooks, journals and diary entries!

Schopenhauer explaining what causes norwooding. He wrote this in 1831, when he was 43, so I must imagine he was slowly losing his own beautiful lofty locks....

Dreamed I saw Schopenhauer on the subway. He was sitting peacefully reading his newspapers and as I looked at him, I thought "Let's stay together, forever, you and me.....there's no one like you....don't leave me, Arthur...." and then I woke up...

With every new intro I read they add another crazy character trait to Schopenhauer..... and it makes me love him even more. "A reclusive pessimist, unsociable, incompatible, ill-tempered, eccentric with an extremely morbid sense of self-importance."

Schopenhauer came from a background where his father intermingled with the nobles, rich and aristocrats. His mother's salon was the first social hub in Weimar where Goethe was a regular guest as well as other intelligentsia. But Schopenhauer turned away all this to be.....alone.

Schopenhauer, 1854: "Overheard a youth sigh, 'I would die for her.' Thought: you will live for her and that is the worse punishment."
