Coubertin founded the IOC to revive the Games. Now expanding into health, education, equality, urban development, and climate action. What drives this shift? Is it corporate commercialization, a quest for development funding, political influence or genuine societal support?

While I commend LA for securing venue sponsors, I’m concerned that embracing this model could lead down a slippery slope. The ‘less is more’ strategy we successfully implemented for the Olympics is crucial for maintaining the integrity and appeal of the event.

If we continue to prioritize the constant need for further funding, does this align with a clean,exclusive approach? Do we risk diluting the brand? What we created has been amazing, but can it continue to expand? time to reconsider and throttle back on continuous expansion?

Let’s be clear: the LA84 sponsorship model wasn’t Ueberroth’s invention. It was designed by the bidding committee with West Nally before he arrived. He executed, not created. One of many “facts” now being misrepresented.

The IOC’s TOP programme wasn’t Samaranch’s invention either. The exclusive brand model was set out in the mid‑70s and evolving by Moscow 1980. Another “fact” now being misrepresented.
