Trooper Jody S. Dye, patrolling Interstate 270 during heavy rainfall, was fatally struck while placing flares at the U.S. Route 33 interchange in Columbus to warn approaching traffic of a crash scene. He was stationed at the Granville Post.

Congratulations to Dispatcher Cheryl A. Smith, Canfield Post, who was recognized yesterday for her 40 years of service to the state of Ohio! She was presented a certificate of recognition by Patrol Superintendent, Colonel Charles A. Jones.

Rural areas present their own unique set of driving challenges. Things like blind curves, narrow roads and minimal lighting are common on country roads. Practice extra caution when traveling in these areas.

Densely populated areas often contribute to traffic congestion, which in turn can lead to an increase in speed-related crashes. Stay cautious and safe. Avoid distracted driving and pay extra attention to the road during commute times. 🚗💼

In 2024, there were over 27,000 speed-related crashes in Ohio. #SlowDown and arrive safely to your destination.

Yesterday, the Patrol's Motorcycle Unit spent the morning with students at Georgian Heights Elementary School in Columbus. We had a great time showing them how our motorcycles work to keep Ohio safe!

It’s important to always maintain a safe speed to give yourself the time and space to react to potential road hazards. Speed is a contributing factor is 27% of rural roadway fatalities. Allow yourself plenty of time and space to react to road hazards.

July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. According to NHTSA, a vehicle was stolen every 37 seconds in the U.S. in 2024.
