One of my favorite Kentucky Derby photos - Mike Smith after finishing a disappointing - and very surprising - 12th aboard 1994 Derby fav Holy Bull As many remember, despite the Derby loss Holy Bull was a crazy-good racehorse (🔥) who won 13 of 16 races. Go for Gin won this day.

BROTHER DEREK was 2006 Kentucky Derby morning-line favorite as of Thursday of Derby week, but he was 7.70-1 at Derby post time. The MG1W winner ran fourth that day for trainer Dan Hendricks. Paralyzed in 2004, Hendricks, who retired in 2019, is still is an excellent horseman.

Luis Saez has reason to smile! He took today's early double at Saratoga, riding MAKES SENSE to victory in the first and REGALTON in the second. The Luis 6-5 dollar daily double paid 12.50.

Great to see PRIVMAN (Justify-Mo Knows, by Uncle Mo) break his maiden at Del Mar July 20! Here's the original Privman (at least in my book) - Jay with Jose Santos, Saratoga, 1989. I now wonder, though. There was a 1988 Explodent gelding named Privman, too. Any relation, Jay?

LUTHER and Joel Rosario had a not-fun time heading into the first turn of today's National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S. (G2) at Saratoga. Things got better for the Charlie Fellowes' trainee when LUTHER (GB), who finished 2nd to Zulu Kingdom, was moved up to the win via DQ.

Congratulations to trainer Joe Sharp on his 1,000th victory! It happened in Ellis Park's 6th race with the horse Master Game, while Joe was here at Saratoga. It sounds as if he and his family had a wonderful time watching the win! : x.com/RosieNapravnik…
