The undocumented population is between 3-4% of the U.S. population. The impact on the social fabric of mass deportations would be catastrophic. It would be a nation rent apart.

The asylum ban, which came as part of a temporary DHS rule, has had far less impact on migrants than the procedural changes in the rule which allowed Border Patrol agents to stop referring migrants for asylum screenings in the first place. THAT has been the actual big change.
