#icjarguments Galit Raguan, actual quote: "In urban warfare, civilian casualties may be the unintended but lawful result of attacks on lawfully militarily..y objectives".

#icjarguments Galit Raguan argued that IDF forces are mitigating civilian casualties by engaging with Hamas in zones with civilian infrastructure. The logic appears to be that Hamas are so indiscriminate in their conduct, but also cowardly, that bombing hospitals benefit Gazans.

#icjarguments "Excuse me, eh, I have a request from the interpreters, that you slow down the pace of your speaking, could you please do that, thankyo.. -Of course". (President of the Court, Judge Joan E. Donghue, to Galit Raguan, acting attorney for Israel)

#icjarguments Omri Sender: Since the previous two esteemed members made such a good effort semantically freeing Israel from even the plausibility of committing genocide, I don't even need to address the provision regarding irreparable harm caused by acts /relevant/ to the court.

#icjarguments One note here. Israel's counsel keep invoking the Myanmar case as a basis for it's objections to the applicant claims. It is kind of well known, I think(?), that the court rejected all of Myanmar's objections. But these objections are what Israel invokes..

#icjarguments Christopher Stalker: The previous four people did such an incredibly good job at proving there is no cause for any alarm, that I don't even need to address the specific measures the applicant has submitted! ...but for the sake of completeness I will do it anyway.

Jostein Johnsen (@nipsen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#icjarguments Christopher Stalker: Imagine if Nazi Germany had gotten a third party to accuse the Allies of genocidal intent, showing a photograph or something of murdered civilians, and gotten an injunction for provisional measures. It would be exactly like this case!

#icjarguments Christopher Stalker, actual quote: "Does South Africa suggest that Israel should cease giving warnings to civilians before military operations? How would that protect the right that South Africa claims". The boarding school quality of that one was very strong..

#icjarguments Gilad Noam: I can attest personally, as adviser to the foreign ministry on matters of international law, and fighting back tears from the indignity of having to defend myself in the middle of a brutal war, that Israel is not intent on committing genocide.

Jostein Johnsen (@nipsen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

#icjarguments Well, that was a trip. The only rational explanation for the Israeli approach I can think of here is that they wish to retcon in a narrative where a revised policy on the forced displacement or killing of Gazans will be pretended to always have been in place.

#icjproclamatiom It was going South Africa's way. Which is presumably what ambassador Vusi Madonsela is writing in his hand here XD

#icjproclamation Judge Joan (Donghue) has been using the opening remarks to softly and carefully pull the rug out from under all of Israel's objections on the court's jurisdiction.
