The Dreadnought Project has a list of all the Naval Staff Monographs prepared by the Royal Navy after the First World War, which have been published online by the Royal Australian Navy. These constitute an official history of the war. #history dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/…

One thing I learned from my trip to the National Maritime Museum today is that after a gale on the night of 27/28 September 1914 the Grand Fleet required 𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 yards (27,432 metres, 17 miles) of wire to repair the damage to wireless aerials in the Battle Fleet. #history

Another Austro-Hungarian Navy perspective on the Germans at Jutland. This report was written by a gunnery engineer officer in August 1916 and covers damage to German warships, new vessels, matΓ©riel, and other aspects of the German Navy. #history dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/…

Utterly devastating news to wake up to. Historian Christopher M. Bell passed away on 15 May aged 57. I’m sorry I never got to actually meet him after years of emails. He was always exceedingly helpful. harboursidecremation.ca/m/obituaries/C…

The Naval Defence Act, 1889, gave effect to the Two Power Standard and launched 70 ships, but what was the actual text of it? You can read it at The Dreadnought Project: dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/… #history

Whilst working on The Dreadnought Project's article on Navy Lists this morning I noticed that somehow the University of California, Irvine ended up with an Admiralty copy of one of the first official Navy Lists. Was nothing sacred? #history dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/…

It's the 114th anniversary of the 114th meeting of the Committee of Imperial Defence on 23 August 1911, one of the many stepping stones towards British involvement in a general European War. The minutes are transcribed on The Dreadnought Project: dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/…

Every so often one will come across mention of a document entitled β€˜The Truth About Harper’ (Vice-Admiral Harper pictured) from the Jutland Controversy. This year I finally came across a copy, which can be read at The Dreadnought Project: dreadnoughtproject.org/tfs/index.php/… #history
