Marie Tharp was an American geologist and oceanographic cartographer who with Bruce Heezen mapped the Atlantic Ocean floor. She was also a key figure in the development of plate tectonics. Tharp and Heezen were awarded the National Geographic Hubbard Medal in 1978. #WomensEqualityDay
