Friend. Erwin didn’t have many in the world but that boy he pulled out of the underground so long ago, now that was someone he could confide in. “Levi. I’m not surprised that these years haven’t dulled your attitude yet. If I had been gone any longer you would’ve come looking.”

As best as one could. I have to lead by example after all. I want all the scouts to be as honed as possible.

“Ah, Ms. Ral. A pleasure to see Levi’s squad members are in such high spirits. Tell me, how has he been treating you?”

Figurative. It seems I’ve always walked the path less traveled. There’s many risks in that… many people who were lost along the way.

The fallen. Ah yes, that’s the simplest way to put it. We often see the embers of our mistakes during the darkest of nights.

The question will always remain in my mind; was what we accomplished enough for their sacrifices? It’s a heavy burden to bear. Under my orders and mine alone did these casualties come.

I’m the one that gives the orders. The one that gambled with these lives. Were one hundred lives equal to the cost of reclaiming a lost wall? Each move must be calculated and even then, I’ve failed in some regards. I went from never losing a soldier to losing too many.

But if not I, then who would’ve carried the burden? I’m not self righteous nor self important but I am aware of the fact that many of the scouts would not be here if not for my intervention in their lives. The world would be so much different in that case. We can only speculate

Good evening Scouts. Keep your minds sharp.

Some of the most difficult days are ahead. I only hope the wills and bodies of those I trust aren’t broken over the course of it.

Don’t ever let that light of yours extinguish. Hope is our greatest tool anymore.
