Having another go at non-fiction writing! Last week we practiced pulling information and summarizing from a book as a group. This week, we’re reading with a partner and working together to extract information from books. Can’t wait to see the final product! 👀

Gr. 2s are learning about patterns from different cultures around the world that have either become universal design elements or defining aspects of that culture. We focused on Japanese patterns & the meanings they hold for Japanese people while learning about Children’s Day 🎏

We love going to the MakerSpace to build new things! Today’s challenge: design a device that would help save and/or protect the Earth 🌎

Lots of changes have happened to our sunflowers in a week! Some seeds have yet to germinate but we’re hopeful 🌱

One of the things a plant needs is light and there’s nothing better to prove that than these photos. I turned all the plants to face away from the window before I left and this morning we could see that they’ve adapted to the change 👀

Painting sunflowers in the hopes that our little sprouts grow just as beautifully🌻

The start of spring flowers 🌷 we start by painting “colour puddles” and filling in the spaces between with green. Next, we’ll draw our flowers on to create a beautiful flower field to put up in our room (somewhere!)

The Grade 2s made some seriously neat creations by translating pattern blocks into “pictures” for books! 📖🧜🏻‍♀️🚙🦁🧌

We saw the coolest thing during outdoor gym today: a sun halo or “the rainbow around the sun” as we called it at the time! Apparently it means we’ll be getting more rain 🌧️

Our murals are coming along nicely! We were busy all afternoon bringing our mural stories to life! 🖼️

Hoping our seedlings will grow into beautiful, healthy sunflowers! Here we are at Week 6 🌻

We had an amazing morning at Fish Creek Park. Some of our favourite moments were “smelling the flowers”, “seeing the goslings” and “sitting in the tall grass”

We have loved coming to these sit spots this year. While Ms. Elzingas class is at Library School, we’ll be going back down to Fish Creek and spending time to learn outside!

There’s nothing like a little change of scenery to add a little spice to the day! I never would’ve thought of using our playground like this — we could’ve read outside for hours 📚

We had an amazing afternoon at Fish Creek Park with the 2/3 classes! They invited us to their sit spot where we spent most of the time journaling what what was up, down and all around ✏️

We went to a new sit spot and saw TONS of cool things! Feathers, eggs, and evidence that beavers were here at one point!

We made nature mandalas with our 5/6 buddies! We foraged for materials and practiced making a repeating pattern around central focal point 🌱

We had a fun wellness morning @HMSCBE exploring various clubs. Options included yoga, drawing, coloring, reading in nature, coding, chalk, rock painting, fitness centers, rainbow whirlygigs and making playlists. It was great to work with new teachers and friends!
