After a very insightful pro d day at Vancouver Christian School, Iā€™m making sure students can visibly see and understand how assessment works! No secret teacher funny business going on here. #assessment #learningtargets

At Parent-Teacher Conferences today I was gifted my first ever ā€œteacher appleā€ by a parent! I guess Iā€™m officially a part of the club ;) cliches can be fun sometimes šŸŽšŸ #teachertwitter

KidSafe, women&family UGM Center or Insite. All ages are effected by the cycle of poverty, addiction, and trauma seen around Vancouver and the east side! Hard to pick just one.

Shocked the students and staff today with my Ted Lasso costume! Ted is the best kind of educator. Heā€™s positive, goofy, hard working, encouraging, and see the strengths in everyone. We could all definitely take notes from this tv character #halloween #tedlasso #teachertwitter

By removing letter-grades and percentages from the picture, we're also getting rid of rank-and-sort. We're saying goodbye to trophy culture. Instead, we're saying that we are a learning community. We pursue proficiency together because we are all developing learners. #BCed

Proficiency over Percentages! As someone who saw school as a game I could win, I wonder how different my educational journey might have been if it wasnā€™t all about getting that 4.0!

Hot take: classroom Christmas decor should always start a month before winter break! Got to soak in all that holiday goodness. (Thanks to a student for the ominous card! Lol!)

This is my new favourite thing! So many fun assessment games can be played on it. Today, we used this as buzzers for a test prep game of jeopardy. I donā€™t who had more funā€¦ me and the EAs or the kids! #makingassessmentfun #edgames

Instead of thinking ā€œdid I make that assessment too easy?ā€ when your classes all ace their unit assessment, change that thinking to ā€œheck ya, I helped them become proficient in this material!!ā€ Everyone getting high marks is a success for them AND you!

So much of social studies is inquiring into different topics of interest, so my grade 8s learned about Kath Murdochā€™s inquiry cycle and created their own analogies! This was a personal favourite of mine! Thanks Meredith Fenton for the idea :) my classes had heaps of fun with this!

The Young Entrepreneurs Market with our grade 7 and some grade 8 students was a SUCCESS! I loved seeing students learn entrepreneurial skills while exercising their creativity. I got some pretty amazing Christmas gifts ;)

Huge thank you to Mt Seymour for welcoming all three of our grade 8 classes and teaching them some awesome new skills! What an amazing way to learn and experience the city weā€™re all living in.

Instead of conventional presentations, my grade 8 classes are teaching each other about the different Crusades by putting on puppet shows. It has been so much fun seeing them collaborate on their scripts and making their characters. Making memories! :)

My grade 8 Social Studies classes got to run a Bubonic Plague Simulation this week. They were merchants or church officials going on trade and pilgrimage routes across Europe in 1348, but each day they spent in a city was a change to catch the Plague! Tensions were high ;P
