“Only about 10% of school achievement can be attributed to schools and teachers while the remaining 90% is due to characteristics associated with students.” A fascinating finding from a fascinating paper

🧵 We’ve all heard it: the more you know, the easier it is to learn. But a recent experimental study puts that claim to the test and the results aren’t what you’d expect. researchgate.net/publication/38…

In the last weeks of the yr, I always returned to looking at how grammar instruction could be improved. I know frequent, low-stakes exercises tied in with SoL is key but, my goodness… it never is a ‘done’ thing, is it!? Sharing my poster here. #SPaG #teamenglish #litdrive

Where are schools and teachers migrating to from here? I have Instagram/Threads and BlueSky with a small community but not sure if these are where the party is at!

I have two copies of The Visualiser Handbook to give away. This is for busy teachers who need concise clarity to make live modelling an effect part of their practice ASAP. To enter, follow, like and retweet this post and I will draw winners at random on the 18th July.

A teacher told me, "I gave one of my 2nd grade (dyslexic) students your nature poetry prompt. He is reluctant to write because of challenges with spelling, but I suspect he’s gifted. I told him just to write and we’d sort out the spelling later. This is what he wrote."

A task to send home to encourage reading over the summer. The children could bring it back completed in the autumn to discuss the books that they have read. literacyshedplus.com/en-gb/resource…

After 3 years it’s been time to review and refine our workload charter, and it’s been lovely to share the update with the MeolsCopHighSchool team this week. One of the best things we’ve ever done, thank you John Tomsett & Jonny Uttley for writing “Putting Staff First’ & inspiring me
