Will Mac ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Drew Perkins Robert Coe Definitely. Students who can focus/concentrate & aren't expecting to be entertained are at a huge advantage. They are the future lawyers, scientists, etc. Do people think reading policy documents is fun? Persevering through tough math papers? Focus & hard work pays.

Working with an overwhelmed early career teacher, teaching outside subject specialism. Iโ€™m going to suggest these 2 books and the StepLab documentary. What other resources would you suggest?

Dave Bowman Justin Skycak I generally avoid invoking neurophysiological correlates of learning. What convinces me are studies done in classrooms, with students, with clear evidence of increases in long-term learning...

I've been saying for years that DuoLingo is fundamentally useless as a language learning tool. It is optimised to solve the problem of boredom, not learning languages. The cognitive activities with which is asks you to engage are guaranteed to predictably lead to no learning.

Professor June the Tea Lady PhTea Warwick Mansell Be clear with your accusation. Are you willing to levy that charge against ResearchEd? (It will make you look very silly mind) Otherwise, please clarify the relevance of your comment.

Wish Iโ€™d seen this idea with such clarity when I first started. I wasted so much time planning a wild spectrum of wild fun ideas. Nopeeeee, small number of things done well.

Every single day schools worldwide teach kids things that they arenโ€™t necessarily interested in. Kids get better. This fact is inconvenient for the platitudes, but true nevertheless.

100% of the four children raised in our home would have supported having televisions in their bedrooms. Thatโ€™s why we didnโ€™t ask for their input or opinions on the issue. No regrets.

Hang around the wrong staff lounge and youโ€™ll start to believe - especially if itโ€™s your first year - that teaching is about swapping frustrations, resenting the system, and surviving another day rather than improving the craft and imparting powerful content to a new generation.

Adam Boxer Really great post. I'm more convinced than ever that an agreed set of T&L principles is *vital* for any school. If it's free-for-all or ambiguous, any feedback a) is really hard to give and b) can be dismissed by a teacher having different preferences.
