We made a #CI for our #STP unit this week as a class. It was quite the process and required a lot of time, communication, thinking, and playing around with sentences but we came up with something pretty great. #risktakers #pypxprep

Global School Play Day was a huge success! The g5 students were so excited. They worked on their #ATLs all day by problem solving, managing conflicts, and being creative. All without any technology! #GSPD2019 #unstructuredplay #pypchat #smiles

Showing our understanding of perimeter, area, and volume using linking cubes. If we know how to figure out perimeter and area can we find the volume of a rectangular prism? #math #g5

G5 ss took part in debates during our #STP unit. I was so impressed with their planning, researching, writing, and presentation skills! Many ss also improved their thinking and communication skills by listening and thinking on the spot! Check out a short clip of one group.

We’ve started PYPx here at ISNS! We’ve been busy exploring what Exhibition is, our passions, and how to turn our passions into authentic issues. Feeling excited to see what these students come up with! #PYPX #pyp #g5 #exhibition

Today, we got into large groups based on our passions. Then, we shared the personal, local, and global issues we are interested in exploring to form our #exhibition groups. #PYPX #g5 There was a lot of authentic and mature discussion happening to decide on groups.

Second #designthinking challenge: build a tower as high as possible that can support a satellite dish to call for help in order to be rescued from a deserted island. #define ➡️#ideate ➡️#prototype ➡️#test repeat as necessary. #teambuilding #pypx #g5

Using design thinking to become engineers and problem solvers. #Rosierevereengineer is a great book to inspire future engineers and problem solvers!

Interesting read! "...in education, where so much of the leadership is male and the vast majority of the employees are female, teachers may go along with unreasonable expectations because if they don’t, they risk being seen as uncaring." cultofpedagogy.com/school-norms/

A special thank you to our Science teachers, who volunteered their time today in #g5. Students presented their #exhibition purpose and #conceptual questions in order to get feedback on how to push their thinking related to #science and #technology. #PYPx #HTWW

roomtodiscover.com/standards-base… What an interesting read about grading. “Students need to see us as coaches who help them reach their goals. When we are rating and sorting, the conflict of interest can hinder the teacher-student relationship.” -Also teacher-parent relationships!

Students co-created a #centralidea for our #stp unit today. It was their first time doing this challenging task but they killed it! We looked at the #keyconcepts and brainstormed #relatedconcepts. Then connected two or three concepts into one enduring understanding. #g5 #pyp

In a profession where there’s always room for improvement, different strategies to help the diverse group of students in front of you, and a constant change in “best practice” it can be hard to feel like you’re doing a good job. #teaching #doingmybest
