Fun fact we learned yesterday: 'micronation' is actually listed in two major dictionaries—Collins English Dictionary, published by HarperCollins, and Lexico, published by Oxford University Press. (Pictured is the entry on Lexico)

One of the largest micronational forums of all time was the Portuguese-language "Impresa Livre," created in June 2001 by the Micronational Press Association (Associação Micronacional de Impresa). Before becoming spammed in the late 2000s, it had over 450 registered users.

The Organisation de la microfrancophonie, a French-language intermicronational organisation, has hosted three intermicronational summits between its member states—one in 2016, 2018 and most recently in 2022. They typically see upwards of fifteen attendees. #micronations

In 2010, a documentary film about micronations, statehood and citizenship entitled How to Start Your Own Country was screened at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival. It was directed by Jody Shapiro and produced by Buffalo Gal Pictures and Everyday Pictures.

Bir Tawil, a 2,060 km2 area of land along the border of Egypt & Sudan, uninhabited & claimed by neither country. Its status is de jure unclaimed territory, a number of individuals & orgs have claimed it as a #micronation. But no one has been taken seriously by the intl community,

The MicroWiki forums were launched in Dec 2010 and became the vocal point of said community. 2 years after its launch, the forums had received 58K posts in 2.9K threads—averaging 80 posts per day! After 2014, it became less active until being superseded by Discord in Sep 2018.

Only two #micronations have official football teams. The Sealand national football team was founded in 2004 & joined the N.F.-Board, a federation made up of unrecognised states not allowed in FIFA, in 2006. The Seborga national football team was founded in 2014. #micronation
