Had the longest and most influential punditry career of anyone I can remember. His ideas came to be seen as hackneyed in some quarters, purely because they were so widely adopted by other pundits. An original thinker.

The end of ITV’s Tour de France coverage is very difficult to accept. My interest in the race - as well as the wider sport - was only made possible as a result of their brilliant coverage. Free-to-air sport matters.

Eddie Dunbar and Ben Healy 1st and 2nd there over the top of the Côte de Mortain. It's the first time two Irish riders have led over a Tour de France climb since Kelly and Roche did it on the Col d'Aubisque in 1985.

Just paid three euro for a 99 and got handed what can only be described as a 54. Then I asked for syrup and was told that syrup was extra. SYRUP WAS EXTRA

Later today, the curtain will close on ITV's Tour de France coverage, and with it, the UK's last free-to-view option of the race will disappear. Here's what happened when our reporter Tom Davidson dropped in on the channel's roadside studio cyclingweekly.com/news/farewell-…

Having the slightly surreal experience of watching the All-Ireland in Brittany with the commentary (which is pretty good) in fluent French. Didn’t know this was a thing. #AllIreland

The Tour De France has been on free to air TV here since 1985. The early versions were part of the fabric of my childhood. It’s shameful then that today was the last on ITV as it moves behind a paywall. As great as TNT’s coverage is - and it is - this isn’t how you grow a sport.
