Reading the articles in the mainstream media on #LongCovid and mental health got me thinking: when did mental health become the basis of a disease process? Mental health is important in health and disease, but is not a substitution for scientific advancement. 1/n

Doctor to me a wheelchair user: “I’d like to examine you. Can you get on the exam table?” Me: “No. Not without assistance. It’s much higher than my wheelchair.” Doctor: “Ok. Maybe next time.” Doctor’s post-visit notes: “Patient declines exam.”

Working with a #LongCovid patient who just isn’t getting better no matter what you try is tough and confronting. That’s why we hired a psychologist. For our STAFF. That way, they can process those feelings of frustration/failure and not be tempted to gaslight/blame their patient.

I think the one thing most non-disabled people fail to recognize about the medical system is that as soon as they get sick, and I mean big sick, they most likely won’t be able to get adequate care unless their condition is common and obviously treatable.
