Megan Peters, a 7th grade student, was a recent participant in the Seton Hill University Youth Honors Jazz Band. Peters qualified for the band through a challenging audition process, followed by weeks of rehearsal in preparation for the March 12th performance.

CJ Engle, a sophomore, recently earned third place honors in a  special contest organized and hosted by Fort Ligonier. Participants were challenged to design a period-accurate model of a fortification that may have existed in the 1700s. Engle’s creation was named Fort Summit.

5th grade students embarked on an adventure on March 8 that took them down numerous career paths. The annual SCTC/Workplace Tour is designed to introduce students to the educational & career opportunities available in Somerset County.

Members of the MAHS FFA Chapter visited youngsters in the elementary school to observe Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week - March 13 through 17. FFA members visited students in kindergarten through second grade, where they read a book and helped students with accompanying activities.

Members of the MAHS National Honor Society recently completed the 2023 Blooms for Hope campaign. Through the sale of daffodils, members raised $1,000 for local cancer patients and their families, particularly for those in hospice care.

Students in Mr. Brandon McIver’s class enjoyed a day off campus exploring their artistic sides and enjoying some delicious food!

The Meyersdale Athletic Boosters are excited to announce the 2023 Basket/Vendor Show will be held Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature more than 45 vendors, concessions and a basket raffle. This fundraiser supports all Red Raider student athletes.

Laura Boyce & Jennifer Brown were selected to perform in the PMEA Region 3 Band Festival, held March 22-24 at Altoona Area High School. These two talented musicians performed along with more than 170 students from 52 school districts in this prestigious event.

The MAES Reading team placed first in the recent '23 Spring Reading Team Competition! The team includes: Lillian Eyer, Adalynn Smith, Allie Miller, Ava Steinberg, Aubree Kenner, Mylie Trowbridge, Jenna Gabuya, Easton Dom, Taylor Sines & Maisy Smith. Emmorie Hollada was absent.

Zoe Hetz, a junior at MAHS, was among those honored at the 2023 Somerset County Girls Basketball Banquet, held March 29. The event was hosted by the Somerset Exchange Club. Hetz was named to the 2022-23 Somerset All-County Girls Basketball Team - Second Team. Congratulations Zoe!

The Middle School Reading team traveled to the Forest Hills School District, March 30, for the Spring Reading Team Competition. Team members include: Hermilee Minkus, Aurora Comfort, Peyton McNett, Leah Boyce, Candice Murray, Ethan Shaulis, Dylan Fochtman and Austin Oester.

Three talented young ladies will be representing MAHS at the 76th Annual Pennsylvania Maple Queen Scholarship Pageant this weekend. Faith Bittner, Laura Boyce & Shelby Hetz will compete for the title of 2023 PA Maple Queen, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 1.

Miss Laura Boyce, a senior at MAHS, was named Queen Maple LXXVI on April 1, 2023! Boyce is the daughter of Rebecca & David Boyce. Boyce was also named winner of the pageant's Maple Wisdom & Promenade Awards and co-winner of the Interview Award. Congratulations Queen Laura!

First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union presented a check in the amount of $750 to the MASD on behalf of their SwipeBoost! debit card program on March 31. The SwipeBoost! program earns money for the District each time a cardholder “swipes” their Red Raiders debit card.

Members of the MAHS FFA, Bailey Knotts, Evan Knotts, Madison Dively, CJ Engle & Jesse Miller, recently attended the 2023 State FFA Legislative Leadership Conference, in Harrisburg. Members participated in workshops & meetings and met with legislative and agricultural leaders.

Four members of the MAHS FFA Chapter attended the Somerset County FFA Public Speaking Contest held on March 23. Jesse Miller, Bailey Knotts, Autumn Baker and Christine Wise (not available for photo) competed in the event. Miller & Knotts will advance to Regional competition.

MAHS students spent April 3 offering their time and talents for the annual “clean-up day” in Meyersdale. Students from Student Council, National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America performed a wide array of volunteer work throughout the community.

Four Meyersdale sixth-grade students, Julian Valentine, Abigail Homa, Tea Carlyle and Leah Boyce, were selected to attend the PMEA District 6 Elementary Honors Band Fest, held March 31, 2023. The event was held at the Central Cambria School District.

Meyersdale Middle School 8th grade students, the Class of 2027, visited our nation’s Capital on April 4. Students visited Arlington Cemetery, the Washington Monument and the National Mall. Organizers hope to make this an annual field trip for all eighth grade students.

The Meyersdale Area School District will be closed today due to inclement weather.
