Perennial question, in tech and medicine: Is it worth going through the work of a setup "from scratch" in order to understand how the building blocks fit together? Having just rebuilt a postfix / dovecot / opendkim / spamassassin mail server, I'm definitely not the one to ask 🤣

“Reassess the Dx” huge at all stages. Know a pulm’gist from before CT scan days who was sent a pt to bronch Bx for “confirm sarcoid.” Eval’ing the pt, thought “this doesn’t quite fit.” Dx’ed pulm HTN; the hilar CXR findings were dilated vasculature. Bx could have killed him.

On this day in 1954, Lillehei and his team performed his first open heart operation, a repair of a VSD using crosscirculation in a 15-month-old boy. An adult (usually a parent) with the same blood type was used more or less as the heart-lung machine.

Dr Warner recruited me to the Duke ACES program. He was a mentor on my IARS360 award. He was my faculty development mentor. I learned something every time I talked to him. A giant in our field has been lost but the legacy he left lives on! #RIP #mentor and #friend

Yes! The flush valve’s beauty and danger is that it bypasses the rest of the machine. It’s there to rescue from machine malfunction and toxic/hypoxic gas mixtures (but who uses ether-in-nitrous-in-air these days?), not as a bellows top-off button.

Excellent summary of how to think about / prepare for / administer research interviews. Unfortunately, medical trainee interviews are more “tell me about a time you overcame adversity” out of necessity / uniformity / what they’re looking for, but I hope someday they evolve.

She was the absolute best - teacher, physician, mom, colleague and, most of all, friend. As Dr Jooste described her, “the determination of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the curiosity of Marie Curie and the fierceness of Wonder Woman” Thinking of her family and the Duke Anes family.❤️💔

I've now been asked multiple times for my take on Elon's offer for Twitter. So fine, this is what I think about that. I will assume the takeover succeeds, and he takes Twitter private. (I have little knowledge/insight into how actual takeover battles work or play out) (long 🧵)

I'm always shocked by how many people think a confidence interval is a prediction interval. A confidence interval relates to a summary statistic over many observations (grey), but a prediction interval relates to a single observation (blue). #statistics #rstats #datascience

For "#RadiologyRounds" today, we won't be looking at any imaging, but we'll be looking at some vent wave forms and examining dysynchrony! This is a re-booted David Furfaro Tweetorial. I hope you enjoy and this is an open invitation for all dysynchrony waveforms!🫁🚨
