Etsy just updated their logo very slightly and I'm angry that they wasted time and money on it. Sorry guys, you know I love you, but WHY? This accomplishes nothing but busy work, and it is certainly not one of the 'vital few' for $etsy

Nothing can prepare you for the immediate onslaught of scams that follow filing for a trademark. The inclusion of public and personalized application details makes it even more dangerous. Gemini summary of the scam email is a nice bonus.

Data update for $Etsy: Back to about same as last year, which is still a better trend than it was in H1. For USA and worldwide.

A friend and I started a side business for single origin maple syrup. We sell through Shopify and sell in the UK and a bit in Hong Kong. One HK user purchased via PayPal a few months ago, so I setup a PayPal account for the business. That's the only purchase that has been made

An anti-spam strategy is critical from day one for any startup. Our marketplace will have comment functionality, so that need was obvious, but what I didn't anticipate was the amount of spam emails we'd get for our waitlist, which doesn't immediately give a bot any ability to do

Applying for a trademark will cost you $350 in the USA, 478.15 CAD in Canada, £170 in the UK, and a whopping €850 in the EU. They are all too expensive. Every country should have a cheaper, shorter-term option for new corporate entities.

I was the second person at my high school to get a CD burner. I undercut his pricing and took all the market share. Then hand-drew label art to lock in my advantage.

It's pretty obvious when a company uses AI-generated graphics in their signage. Reversion to the mean suggests that NOT using AI content, or heavily customizing it, will be necessary to stand out.

Props to eventbrite for still squeezing out that 10% fee on a service that seems like it would have no sustainable competitive advantage. They must be studied.

When testing your site/app, always remember to try using your phone, with the wifi off, and in a room where the internet works slowly. Trust me, that scenario will immediately pop up when your users start using it.

What's the better startup culture for a CEO to imbue: abstain from political topics, or enable political commentary, and encourage counter-arguments?
