#OTD 1922. My last day as an army officer, head of the Air Service Engineering Div, & commander of McCook Field. Tonight, we celebrate, tomorrow my replacement will introduce himself.

The de Bothezat helicopter, nicknamed "The Flying Octopus" because of its four massive rotors, makes its first flight at McCook Field in Dayton, Ohio.

The U.S. Army withdraws its last occupational forces from Germany, departing from Coblenz and ending the stationing of troops there after more than four years. At noon, the American flag is lowered and the remaining American troops board trains at the Coblenz station.
