The drivers of climbing electricity rates are… 1. spikes in fossil gas prices 2. rising costs to maintain and rebuild aging and stressed grid infrastructure 3. a utility business model that incentivizes big capital investments that customers have to pay off over decades

European Court of Auditors European Court of Auditors says "The EU’s industrial policy on renewable hydrogen needs a reality check" because its targets "were not based on a robust analysis". We know the targets came from Hydrogen Europe becuase @JorgoChatzimarkakis said so. Would he care to comment?

"This is the first time everyone on the planet will have access — for free — to near real-time data as to how much #methane is coming out of the oil and gas industry," Fred Krupp said of MethaneSAT at #CERAWeek earlier this year. Visit methanesat.org to learn more 🛰️

The considerable costs of making Gulf Coast communities resilient in the face of rising climate change should be internalized into every increment of oil and gas sold in the United States. You break it, you bought it. subscriber.politicopro.com/article/eenews…

Since when has it been an attribute of American ‘greatness’ to reject technological innovation and shy away from capturing new markets? That’s not the America I was raised in. subscriber.politicopro.com/article/eenews…

It's time for oil & gas to get serious on delivering COP28 pledges. Flaring and methane emissions are at near all-time highs, and industry has a long way to show it's taking pledges seriously. MethaneSAT will deliver accountability — but we need action. x.com/antonioguterre…

"What we've got is not a hydrogen economy, it's a hydrogen carrot economy. If you need 24 different subsidies to get your technology solution to beat the alternative, whatever it is, you've got a problem. There needs to be a reset. And there needs to be accountability."

New MethaneAIR data makes it clear the oil and gas industry is far from meeting its goals. Methane emission rates at U.S. facilities are eight times higher than the industry target. And they’re more than four times higher than EPA estimates. 1/2

This is so misleading. That is *not* demand, despite the title: it's supply. Repeat after me: "Primary Energy Demand is not demand, it's supply, and 2/3 of it is lost as waste". #StopBurningThings #PrimaryEnergyFallacy #PrimaryEnergyisBollox HT Si Cy

Mars Paul Arundale Si Cy DESNZ statistics Renewable energy would look even better. 15% of fossil fuels are expended in extracting fossil fuels, and 40% of blue-water shipping volume is used to move them around. Not just once, while facilities are built, but all day every day as we burn fossil fuels.

As Steve Hamburg says here, earlier methane monitoring methods gave us a snapshot “...but not a motion picture.” But MethaneSAT will provide the comprehensive data needed to shape targeted policies and regulations that will really drive down emissions. grist.org/accountability…

Measurement of carbon uptake in soils is nascent, at best, and without it, ‘permanence,’ the duration of any uptake is uncertain. All for continued research and learning, but premature to be awarding ‘credit’ in context of carbon accounting for compliance. nytimes.com/2024/08/10/cli…

Mark Brownstein (@marksbrownstein) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Biofuels have a role to play, particularly in aviation and shipping. But the details around carbon accounting matter, and sustainable feedstocks are limited. At present, there is much wishful thinking among industry and some policymakers. nytimes.com/2024/08/27/bus…
