In fact, The Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi and Tom Sherwood and Alex Koma, among the tiny handful of states without a #TipCredit, no state has eliminated the tip-wage system at restaurants and bars in *FIVE DECADES*!

Dan’s Cafe isn’t named for its owner, but Clinnie “Dickie” Dickens ran the dive for 60 years before passing in February. Barred in DC chronicles the history of one of D.C.’s most storied bars. buff.ly/T0K1nhN

Interesting: As expected, Mayor Muriel Bowser is proposing changes to D.C.'s youth curfew, which is midnight during the summer months. She wants it moved to 11 p.m., for it to apply to 17-year-olds, and for MPD to be able to declare temporary areas where the curfew would be 7 p.m.

Today the D.C. Council will cast first votes on public safety bills from Councilmember Brooke Pinto, including one that will make permanent an emergency bill from two years ago that expands pre-trial detention for violent offenses, and another to restrict amplified protests outside homes.

NEWS: The D.C. Council has given initial approval to Councilmember Brooke Pinto's public safety bill on an 8-2-2 vote. The marquee provision makes permanent the expansion of pre-trial detention for the most violent crimes. This has been in effect over the last 18 months on emergency basis.

Thx you Councilmember Brooke Pinto Anita Bonds Councilmember Matt Frumin Councilmember Wendell Felder & Mayor Muriel Bowser for supporting legislation to improve safety on Metro Forward. Safety is a core value at Metro and while crime is at a 7 year low and we have had a significant reduction in fare evasion on rail đŸ§” 1/3

I am disappointed this common sense fix did not pass today. Our Special Police Officers on @WMATA already handle incidents including criminal or violent incidents. Why not empower them to write a civil citation for fare evasion the same way the Metro Transit Police already do

Incredibly, the DC Council voted 8-4 to defeat a measure by Ward 2 Council Mbr Councilmember Brooke Pinto, Judiciary & Public Safety Committee Chair, to allow special police to write fare evasion citations on Metro Forward Metro buses, on which fare evasion is rampant, and trains – costing $50M/yr.

Feel bad for all the suckers (like me) who diligently pay their Metro Forward fare every single time they ride. Yesterday Charles Allen and CM Janeese Lewis George went against Metro Forward and essentially said losing over $50 million to fare evasion was no big deal. Absolutely insane.

DC is projected to lose 40K jobs in the next 4 years. We’ve secured control of RFK and have a once-in-a-generation deal with the Commanders: the largest private investment in DC history. We can't afford to wait. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We must deliver for DC.

NOTABLE: In UNITE HERE Local 25 labor union poll, only slightly more than one-third (37%) of DC voters ‘strongly oppose’ DC Mayor Bowser’s city budget proposal to Repeal #Initiative82 – and despite a misleading poll question falsely claiming tipped workers are not guaranteed minimum wage.
