Every year I read a lot of grad school applications from accomplished people that don't give me the info I'm looking for. It feels like a major hidden curriculum thing. So here's (my opinion on) how to write a great Statement of Purpose/Research for a PhD program. 🧵 1/

This is actually how "confidence intervals" work in statistics. I'm being 100% serious. Read on. This is a really fun concept. x.com/HumansNoContex…

Running a multiverse analysis is good for understanding analytical flexibility, but can come with a lot of analytical headaches. Great paper outlining software to make it easier: ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/92165…

I just got an email from an interested PhD applicant asking about what else they can be doing to prepare. I ended up drafting up (what I think is) a nice recommendation for starting to learn Monte Carlo Sims. A 🧵... (1/7)

We just updated our large database of PhD fellowships. For each of the 190 entries, we provide description of the fellowship, link, amount, deadline, and eligibility criteria (e.g. citizenship). Downlonad this database here: research.jhu.edu/rdt/funding-op…

I'm excited to announce that I'll be recruiting a PhD student for the social psychology PhD program at the University of Michigan U-M Psychology for 2024! Please share with any students interested in research on poverty, inequality, culture, and intervention/ behavioral science.

Excited to share my MA thesis! I asked if Erin O'Toole persuaded Conservatives about carbon pricing. The answer is complicated. A thread /1

A decade of open-science and science reform, replications are much more mainstream now, right? Wrong. See Beth's preprint below. My summary slide is attached (Beth's sent by Simine). Have we improved? maybe, not by much. Sometimes feels like 1 step forward 2 backwards 👇

This year I'll be conducting a simulation study in R. I've run sims before, but this time want to focus on improving my software development skills at the same time, keeping everything neat & organized. Does anyone have any recommended resources? #rstats

🚨 I'm excited to release the 𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚢𝚝𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎 📦 for #RStats ! Convert R dataframes to beautiful tables in HTML, LaTeX, PDF, Quarto, Markdown, etc. Easy to learn; minimalist interface; concise syntax; ultra-customizable tables; and zero dependency. 🧵 vincentarelbundock.github.io/tinytable/

Anyone have experience using the STM API with #python requests? I'm trying to get real-time bus data and it's returning as protobuf, which I'm then having trouble converting to a human-readable format.

Pls RT! York University's Winter Quantitative Methods Workshop Series starts next week! E.g., Intro to jamovi, Intro to LaTeX/Overleaf, Regression/Path Analysis, Visualizing Linear Models. See qm.info.yorku.ca/qmws/

Been loving the causal inference resources for R at this site. Good breadth of coverage for people looking for something a little more hands-on than most of the resources I find. r-causal.org

I'm looking to catch errors in a simulation study in R and then continue the loop. Does anyone have a preferred way to do that? e.g. if normal behaviour is 3+x and the result is added to a data frame, if x is a character and an error results I want that row in the df to be NA.

Logistic MLMs are often described as "simple extensions" of linear ones, but the first step, calculating the ICC, is way more complicated! Sean noticed this when taking my class and ultimately developed a tutorial with example data and code. I learned a lot, I hope you do too!
