Over the years, World Health Organization (WHO) has partnered with Ghana to strengthen health systems and improve service delivery. Today, Prof. Mohamed Janabi, WHO African Region Regional Director, met with Ghana’s Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to discuss health sector priorities and deepen collaboration.

Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has just arrived in Ghana for #AfricaHealthSovereigntySummit taking place tomorrow. Together with health leaders, he will advocate for sustainable health financing & stronger health systems in Africa.

From 25–27 August 2025, Ghana will join other African countries in Lusaka, Zambia, for the WHO African Region Regional Committee to deliberate on key health priorities. Today, we met with Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ghana’s Minister of Health, to align priorities for Ghana’s strong participation.


Led by Fiona Braka, we paid a courtesy call on UNFPA Ghana to further deepen collaboration. Together, World Health Organization (WHO) & UNFPA are aligning efforts to advance health, rights, and well-being in Ghana. Today’s discussions pave the way for deeper collaboration and even greater impact.



Together with UNESCO Ghana & UNFPA Ghana, we are supporting Ministry of Health, Ghana to convene a meeting on the Western and Central Africa Commitment for Educated, Healthy & Thriving Adolescents. This will help align efforts to secure their health, education & future.


Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe diarrhoea in young children worldwide. This week, we’re at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the Rotavirus Regional Reference Lab, building capacity of lab & surveillance officers from across West Africa to better detect, monitor & respond to rotavirus.


Last year, Ghana carried out a polio vaccination campaign after detecting poliovirus in the Eastern Region. Building on that effort, together with Ghana Health Service and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, we are strengthening surveillance to ensure early detection and protection against future outbreaks.



Thanks to funding from The Pandemic Fund, we’re working with #GiveBloodGhana to train their staff on blood safety standards. This capacity-building effort is part of Ghana’s journey toward safer transfusions, stronger health security and more resilient blood systems.


High-quality data is key to #EndingAIDS. Together with partners, we’re supporting Ghana Health Service to train 80 subnational officers to track progress, identify gaps, and develop action plans to accelerate elimination efforts.
