What’s needed is new framing. Not party-oriented but democracy-oriented. Truth-oriented. The media shouldn't elevate liars in the interest of “fairness.” Yes, media should be fair – to the readers, to the facts. But not to the 2-party system. To our democracy. 8/9

First we need journalists and their organizations to say it outright: we are pro-democracy, pro-voting, pro-truth, pro-science. Then carry that reasoning forward to show that it has consequences for what journalists do, like putting people on TV who regularly misinform.

This is one of the most disturbing aspects of the Hannity texts: That someone who pretends to be a journalist is secretly an informal advisor and close associate of the president. The merging of press and government happens in a totalitarian regime.
