Reminder: all welcome at tomorrow's libvips meetup. A few members of the Shopify Engineering team have kindly offered to talk about their recent switch to libvips. There'll be other quick talks, plus plenty of opportunity to ask questions and speak with fellow users, all very informal.

Thank you very much to the team at Chrome for your 💰 $10000 💰donation to libvips. As well as funding internships, we'll be redistributing some of this money to smaller, less well-known dependencies upon which libvips is built to help ensure their continued maintenance.

Here's my latest deep house mix for you all to enjoy. A special mention must go the opening track "Without Your Love" by @Clive_Accounts, which is so, so good. To those who celebrate it, I hope you have a great Christmas. deephouse.uk

Christopher Alexander's "Cascade of Roofs" pattern will shelter me always. His 1977 book "A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction" will help you turn complexity into simplicity. Having only read two so far, I hope one day to fully comprehend his "Nature of Order" opus.

I was looking forward to attending today's Beckenham Town FC game but sadly evidence has emerged of racism at the club and no meaningful action has been taken to deal with it. My friends and I are no longer going, and the money I would have spent has been donated to Show Racism the Red Card

Node.js 12 reaches EOL this week. When upgrading, please watch out for a bug in npm 8 that can corrupt package-lock.json files. This affects esbuild, sharp and other packages providing prebuilt binaries. Possible workaround: "npx fix-has-install-script" github.com/npm/cli/issues…

🛡️ There's a possible build-time vulnerability when installing versions of sharp prior to the latest v0.30.5. This does not affect its usage at runtime and is unlikely to affect anyone that already cares about the security of their build environment. github.com/lovell/sharp/i…

⛰️ On holiday in the Lake District and raising a glass of Helvellyn beer to everyone that helps maintain its namesake mountain, the 3rd highest in England. Fantastic 360° views from the summit today, if a little hot on the way back down.

🎂 sharp, the open source Node.js image processing library I created way back in 2013, will turn 9 years old later this week. A big thank you to Google Chrome for Developers for their rather timely birthday present, which sees it included in the 2022 list of software to receive funding.

Never a better time to mention I opened a "sleeper account" on the first Mastodon instance (mastodon.social) during its first week of operation way back in October 2016. You should be able to find me there by searching for @[email protected] 👋
