GBIO is in full support of the local option for the Real Estate Transfer Fee. GBIO leader Linda Hill and GBIO ED/Lead Organizer Kathleen Patrón offered strong support at the Local Option for Housing Affordability Coalition lobby day. We look forward to getting it done this legislative session! #mapoli

When Somerville first passed our Transfer Fee home rule petition to fund affordable housing back in 2018, there were just 2 or 3 communities doing so. Testifying today on Beacon Hill, we’re one of nearly 20 municipalities (Local Option for Housing Affordability Coalition). The time is now! realestatetransferfee.org

The Transfer Fee is a critical tool in solving our housing crisis. We thank Governor Maura Healey Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll for recognizing this and we look forward to working with them to make the transfer fee a reality. Full statement here:

✍️Proud to write in strong support several urgent housing priorities that were included in Governor Maura Healey's "Affordable Homes Act" bond bill: transfer fee for affordable housing (Local Option for Housing Affordability Coalition), Social Housing Pilot Program, ADUs legalized statewide & more.

The need for the real estate transfer fee is undeniable if we are going to tackle the housing crisis. Happy to see Speaker Mariano is open to this crucial tool and we look forward to working with him and the rest of the legislature to make this tool a reality #mapoli

Our statement after the legislature’s failure to include the Local Option Real Estate Transfer fee in the Affordable Homes Act. We are profoundly disappointed that this common sense tool was not included to allow cities and towns that wanted it to tackle the housing crisis.

Its impossible for us to bond our way out of this crisis. The failure of the legislature to include the transfer fee, a continuous source of REAL dollars for affordable housing, shows the legislature has no desire to meet this crisis head on. Disappointed is an understatement.
