It's worth remembering that in the late 1960s, some of America's privileged 20-somethings, like Charles Murray, were over in Thailand engaged in counterinsurgency, rather than protesting against it at home.

You shouldn’t be able to get a degree in political science or sociology in America without being required to engage deeply with the relationship between race & politics/society.

required reading for middlebury president patton and her campaign for "rhetorical resilience" (i.e., keep inviting charles murray to campus)

I can’t even with this piece. The entire framing, including but not limited to the headline, belies uncritical acceptance of a narrative that the faculty are the “problem.” Maybe the faculty are those who save students this fall??? nytimes.com/2020/07/03/us/…

interesting that middlebury got a positive mention regarding protest policy, when actual anti-racist protests at middlebury were met with very punitive response from administration. at least it's a policy!

If ever there were a time to remember that professors are workers and that universities are workplaces, that time would be now. Administrators believe your job is worth dying for as they cynically use the bodies of employees to pad their bottom line. nytimes.com/2020/07/03/us/…

Working with UNC History and uncpolisci, we have begun the process of renaming our building as Pauli Murray Hall. Murray was a gifted orator, author, attorney, historian, priest, and activist who advocated for the rights of all members of society. Federal data from the 2013-4 school year "showed that Black students in Vermont accounted for a staggering 23.3% of school-based arrests, despite making up only 2.4% of the student population." vtdigger.org/2020/06/26/ami…

this is definitely an idea that needs to be considered. the roads are the places where many are most at risk and where the vast majority of drivers are cavalier about rules of the road and safety. traffic needs regulation but it's too important to trust to the police.
