The school was about to throw out old Chromebooks as "e-waste". Grabbed one, casually took the guts out to explore giving it a new life as a CyberDeck. Students now also casually taking them apart. Never separate hands, minds and disciplines. #cyberpunk

Latest projects from the workshop. Finished an oak bowl, turned a new handle for a broken skew chisel and made a chopping board from some old rimu.

Made workshop storage out of old 3D printer filament spools. A bit of CAD, some 3D printing, wood turning, and some percussive encouragement.

The glamorous life of a Technology teacher. About to convert a classroom into a design studio and move most of this into it. 2025 has potential. #myofficetoday

Experimenting with making/growing mycelium packaging. Used some spores and substrate from an oyster mushroom kit, 3D printed a mold, and let it grow over a week. Keen to refine and get students to make custom packaging next year.

Looking for ways to introduce students to airbrushing and creating masks on a vinyl cutter. Stripped back an old welding mask from school to test the idea.

Experimenting with melting waste 3D printer filament into sheets and laser cutting. Some student experiments from this morning testing a draw/trace process.

In this afternoon's "Recycle a Device" club at school we swapped out a broken screen on a student's Chromebook giving it a new life, installed Windows and Ubuntu Linux operating systems, and swapped salvaged RAM from one laptop to another. I learned as much as the students.

Testing out making insoles for shoes from the openfootwear.com project to see if we could do this at school. First go at using contour cuts on my CNC router using EVA foam to test a soft material. #openfootwear

Looking at using the open footwear project as an option for product design students next year. Turns out EVA foam is perfect for prototyping shoe designs without the need for industrial skills and solvents.
