Every time I watch It’s A Wonderful Life I never fail to cry, and then I think of this as Lynch himself swells up in tears. Rest in Peace.

No one was able to capture the horrific realities of modern existence, while treating his subjects with empathy and interiority, quite like David Lynch. Thinking of The Elephant Man and The Straight Story as pointed examples of this. Master of his craft in every sense of the word

David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.
