A #OnePlaceWednesday walk through a bit of #OldnallEnd I don't often get to see. Once the prosaically named 'Meadow above Railway,' today this is the much more dramatic 'Dragon Lake' - part of Lavender Hall Fishery. And I managed to cut out all the HS2 cranes! #winning

Quality 17th-century insults: in 1634, Mary Matthew of Berkswell brought a case to the local church court against Katherine Avery for saying 'Mary Matthew is a pudding pye whoare' (Mary won!) via Lichfield Consistory Court papers StaffsStokeHistory

Me waiting for my freshly-digitized 1554 survey of Berkswell to download from TNA website* *Full disclaimer: it has only been 14 minutes but I am IMPATIENT

And that's a wrap! Just published the final house history in my Meeting House Lane mini-project - an C18 cottage built on the waste that survived until 1990 #BalsallCommon #OldnallEnd #Berkswell #OnePlaceStudy #LocalHistory oldnallend.uk/oldnall-end-pr…

This field has helped me trace the history of Berkswell's famous Ram Hall all the way back to 1667 ... watch this space for the full story! #OnePlaceStudy #OldnallEnd #LocalHistory

Ram Hall is famous as the home of Berkswell Cheese (😒), but did you know we can trace its history back to at least 1667? Follow the link to find out more: oldnallend.uk/oldnall-end-pr… #OldnallEnd #Berkswell #BalsallCommon #OnePlaceStudy #LocalHistory

Reading a 1768 will for a vicar whose family are all linguists (tho I detect a hierarchy...): 'I divide among my nephews who have a learned education all my books in the learned languages & give to my four daughters such of my English & French books as they shall desire to keep'

Kirsty Hooper (@khgenealogy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The will (1768) also says 'my son William and my daughter Rebecca have not made so much improvement of their understanding as the rest of my children have done' and puts their inheritance in trust and now I'm curious whether they were rebellious or just not academic...

For #OnePlaceWednesday here's my working map of #Berkswell parish c.1839. I'm so curious about the history of the parish divisions (in black), which look like they should be neat quarters but very much aren't! #OnePlaceStudy #LocalHistory

This beautiful house was demolished last week for HS2 and it felt like a kick to the stomach, so I wrote up its history #Berkswell #BalsallCommon #OldnallEnd #OnePlaceStudy #LocalHistory oldnallend.uk/oldnall-end-pr…

Been thinking about church seating all week after finding that fab list in the back of the #Berkswell register (tentative date 1611). Here's a more refined diagram, though I'm still not sure where exactly the women's seats were... #OnePlaceStudy #LocalHistory #ParishHistory
