Working away spiffingly on a new short story; I have six for which I am trying to find a publisher, and a few have been published in The Stinging Fly, The Moth, Stand(UK,) and Southword, with another due again in Stand soon. Neither young nor photogenic, I don't hold my breath.

Nasty and potentially dangerous road sinking at the entrance to ALDI and shopping centre in Westside, Galway. Who is responsible for fixing these? Could wreck a car's suspension at the very least.

New issue of CYPHERS is out, No. 95, packed with new poems, prose, book reviews and all for less than six euros - wouldn't get you a sandwich in Galway. I understand that Cyphers may not run to very many more issues, which is sad and regrettable.

Bollock-breaking hypocrisy of Irish defence forces concerned about Russian ships off the Southern coast - what can they be doing? No worry at all about US military aircraft passing through Shannon Airport and not one attempt to inspect them for munitions and arms. Neutrality?

Revelations on an RTE documentary last evening hosted by Michael Portillo, of a suggestion that gas be used on Rory O'Connor's anti-Treaty defenders of The Four Courts and that Churchill would provide British planes in Irish livery to bomb Dublin were shocking.

Well do I recall how dismissive the City Council were to finding premises for the Western Writers' Centre. No reservations, however, about extending these old premises on Nuns Island with renovations etc., and not having a notion of the costs.

Very sad to learn of the death of poet KNUTE SKINNER (1929 - 2023) in Co. Clare, and our deepest condolences to his partner and wife, Edna.

My pet wordpeeve: 'Let go.' 'We hear that Brown & Co. are letting go some of their staff.' So we get a mental picture of staff who are chained to the floor being released and allowed to leave. No one wants to say 'sacked' anymore, or 'fired.' Why?

So last evening I finally completed a draft of this short story I've been tangling with for what seems an inordinately long time. I've been tweaking it and moving the pieces around since. It ore or less completes the half dozen stories I wanted to fold into a collection.
