Love isn't about when you first meet. It's about the many, many years you spend together when you're trying to keep that flame burning.

I was given this award for uncovering an abyss, they say. However, I have always seen my books and characters as ways to bring emotion and thought up to the surface. May we all be able to rise up and achieve the unimaginable.

I have truly fallen in love with British culture. Being knighted has been a humbling experience that helps validate all of the choices I've made. Being born Japanese, I never imagined that life would take me here. Life is a journey and the sights sure are beautiful.

You have to accept that sometimes that’s how things happen in this world. People’s opinions, their feelings, they go one way, then the other. It just so happens you grew up at a certain point in this process.

The rough draft is a big mess. I pay no attention to anything to do with style or coherence. I just need to get everything down on paper. From there, improvements may be made to get it where you want it to be. Always take the initiative to just start.
