Thanks Cefas for a great conference! Really enjoyed meeting students and staff and hearing about such diverse research. Also, shout out to Dr Charley Clubley for an interesting talk on the use of dispersal modelling as a non-native species management tool

Thanks @ECSAssociation for the opportunity to present my research on the feeding rate of the non-native Asian date #mussel at your conference this week. There was a great selection of talks, including those by Andy van der Schatte Olivier and Zoe Morrall about Project RaNTrans.

A very successful boat trip this week! We collected lots of lovely mud samples which will be used for understanding what species the Asian date #mussel occurs with. Couldn't have done it without Charlie Mountain and Lucy Martin.

Sparkling #seaweed in Lulworth Cove! In the middle of this video is Irish moss (Chondrus crispus) which reflects blue and ultraviolet light, possibly to protect itself from the sun's rays and / or to confuse animals that would otherwise eat it. nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/…

A great day out on RV Callista this week with University of Portsmouth Masters students, learning about different sampling methods and practicing ID skills. We thought this tiny 3 cm #squid may have been a type of bobtail, called "little cuttlefish". Thanks for having us University of Southampton

Seems like a normal underwater encounter: largemouth bass goes after a minnow...right? Wrong! The little fish is a bivalve, a mussel, that mimics a minnow to spray its parasitic larvae into the gills of an actual fish. 🎥U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service B. Billings R. Hagerty

Certain types of sea urchins will pick up a shell with their tube feet and ‘wear’ it, with a behavior known as “covering reaction”, mainly because they shy away from light. So aquarium enthusiasts 3D-printed tiny hats and they actually wear them.
