We are mourning the loss of one of our team after a fatal helicopter crash in the Peace River Forest Area. Our hearts go out to the pilot’s friends, family and colleagues. We know there are dangers in fighting wildfire, but it does not make a loss like this any less difficult.

During todays "clause by clause" of the Ford "Working for Workers Act" Bill 149, The government voted against recognizing Wildland Firefighters for the purposes of WSIA & other Acts, thereby denying them the rights to presumptive coverage for occupational illnesses. OPSEU/SEFPO

We're extremely disappointed with this government's refusal to recognize the long-term occupational hazards of being on the frontlines of forest fires. Forest fire workers face higher risks of cancer and heart disease just like urban firefighters. Shame on this government.
